Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use this site.
MinneLakes.org aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA.
What we do
- Pages are server-rendered HTML with headings, landmarks, lists and tables used for their meaning.
- Everything works with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline and a skip-to-content link.
- Light and dark themes are both checked for text contrast.
- Text can be zoomed to 200% without loss of content; zooming is never disabled.
- Lake, county and guide pages are also available as plain Markdown by adding
.mdto the address.
Known limitations
- The interactive maps are hard to use with a screen reader. Every lake on a map is also reachable through county pages, search and the tables on each listing page, and each lake page has a text link for directions.
- The live forecast on lake pages loads after the page and may not be announced by all assistive technology.
Accessible lake access
See lakes with a fishing pier for the most accessible places to fish.
